Weapons in Polylithic

A club is a joke until the combo lands. A javelin is stalk you already spent.

Weapons Hub

Polylithic weapons are few, named, and expensive in the quiet ways: stalk, wood, obsidian, and the stamina bar that 1.0 made hungrier. The full release added new clubs, a wooden axe, mallet toys, more obsidian in the campaign, faster javelins, and a pass on attack animations for spears, blades, and thrown shafts. It also balanced animal damage and lowered stamina cost per swing so a fight lasts longer than one panic mash. This page is the kit list. How to craft is the recipe walk. Combat is the moment you should have brought a bow.

Do not craft a museum. Craft a replaceable edge. If a hunt spends the only javelin and the only string, you did not win. You rented a highlight.

Thrown, drawn, and why arrows win the week

Rocks are the tutorial projectile. You can throw them to mess with animals and pick them back up. Javelins are the real thrown class. 1.0 made them faster and gave them new attack animations. They still eat stalk. They still vanish in grass if you celebrate too early. Recover shafts when the world lets you. Bows spend wood on arrows once the weapon exists, which is why late Paleolithic camps stop treating every fight like a javelin budget meeting.

Range is how you hunt caribou without joining them. Range is how cliffs work on mammoths, which is the advice a developer already gave in plain language: try bow, javelin, or axe from somewhere the tusks cannot RSVP. Lock-on exists. Use it. A thrown rock is not a boss plan.

Clubs, axes, mallets, blades

Clubs combo, and 1.0 had to fix that combo specifically. They are the melee you bring for boars you can sidestep, not for bison families. Wooden axes overlap with lumberjack work; trees and skulls both notice them. Mallets are building tools that still count as a hit. If you are framing a hut, the mallet is in your hand for a reason. If you are in a sabertooth’s personal space, you brought the wrong appointment.

Blades belong on the grindstone. Better blades improve butcher yield, which is an economy, not a flex. Bone needles are not weapons; they are how hut covers happen. People still search for a combat use. There is not one that beats a bow. See buildings when the needle is a housing problem.

Obsidian items are a 1.0 campaign gift. More obsidian was seeded into Story. Treat it as a rare edge, not as the reason you skip flint. Sandbox may be stingier. Do not restart a seed because you wanted volcanic glass on minute twenty.

Stamina, shout, and the shared wallet

Every swing, every sprint, every 1.0 shout drinks the same tank. Metabolism was quadrupled. Weapon attacks were tuned to cost less stamina than the worst Early Access mash, and they still will strand you if you yell then combo then roll. Eat before the pull. Hunger and body is the other half of the damage formula.

Torches scare and spread fire. 1.0 had to fix torch behavior in multiplayer more than once. Do not open a raid with a flaming stick unless you like cooking your own fence. Hole traps exist; 1.0 added bait descriptions and hints. Bait is not a mammoth delete key. It is a placement puzzle for animals that path worse than you.

What to carry on a real hunt

Hotbar: bow or javelin, a backup melee for the boar you did not see, food that is already cooked, and a torch if night is coming. Leave the mallet at the frame. Leave the hyena on Heel if the pet pulls second targets. How to hunt names the animals. This page names the kit that keeps those names from becoming obituaries.

Craft two of anything you throw. Repair clothes after raids because 1.0 clothes take damage and also reduce it. Then go home. A beautiful obsidian edge in a bush is just archaeology for the next corpse.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Are bows better than javelins in Polylithic 1.0?

Usually for sustained hunts. Arrows spend wood. Javelins spend stalk and get lost. 1.0 did make javelins faster.

Did 1.0 add new weapons?

Yes. New clubs, a wooden axe, mallet items, more obsidian in campaign, and new attack animations. See the crafting hub for stations.

Is a club enough for bison?

No. Clubs combo now, and bison still win. Use range or leave. Combat covers the mean 1.0 bison.

What is obsidian for?

A rarer 1.0 campaign material for sharper kit. It is not a first-hour farm. Pair with items.
